It was a good idea, and it came at a good time. But it never really took off the way the GasMan wanted it to.
In 1998, the GasMan got fed up trying to keep track of who had the cheapest gas in Chittenden County, Vermont. So, he figured that he and a team of GasMans could keep a running tally of the best prices, all run off the Internet so that anyone could find that magic station where they could save a few pennies per gallon.
It worked for a little while. But the team of GasMans never really came together, and the few volunteers eventually stopped submitting new price reports. And the GasMan eventually stopped updating the site at all. Old stations went away, stations changed hands, new stations were built - and the site got more and more out of date.
On March 3, 2004, it was painfully obvious the time for retirement was at hand. The GasMan wishes to thank all those who did volunteer to track prices, and hopes that when the site was up to date, that it was a nice resource for people in the county.
